Global leader in publishing, the business is supported by a central Reporting Planning & Analysis finance team based in London. This business-partnering role is part of that team and will be responsible for oversight of Direct Costs, Gross Margin and Digital costs.

Overview of the role

This Finance Manager role reports in to the Director of FP&A and the successful candidate will take ownership of budgeting, reporting and oversight of the Education Digital and Technology spend.

The role involves business partnering with relevant non-finance and finance personnel throughout the business, facilitating the two-way flow of financial information both to build the budget and forecast for these areas, and also to provide timely and insightful reporting on actuals vs budget to key stakeholders and decision-makers in the business.

A successful candidate will be able to provide analysis to explain movements in the global and UK gross margin across products and regions, working with supply chain colleagues, and regional Financial Directors, to understand and explain the internal and external, local and global forces that drive direct costs.


  • Provide timely and insightful reporting to the Director/CFO of actuals against budget for Gross Margin %, Supply Chain and Digital costs to support decision-making
  • Own the budget and forecasting processes for Gross Margin %, Supply Chain and Digital costs
    • Gather costs from around the business
    • Use financial modelling and analysis to forecast future year costs
    • Input and manage budget values within the budgeting software
    • Present budgets and forecasts to board members and explain
      y-o-y movements
  • Implement and manage a monthly reporting pack for regional Finance Directors explaining movements and drivers in their local Gross Margin %
  • Act as business partner for Supply Chain colleagues;
    • provide a monthly reporting pack showing movements in all production and distribution costs
    • be a finance point of contact for any queries
  • Act as business partner for heads of Digital and Technology;
    • Provide timely reporting of actuals against budget
    • Monitor and review the designation of costs as OpEx or CapEx
    • Manage the Recharges
  • Prepare month-end journals for key Supply Chain and Digital costs

Jobholder experience

  • Qualified Accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent)
  • Minimum 2 years' experience of Management Accounting
  • Demonstrated Management Accounting experience in a global company
  • Fluent level of English: spoken and written
  • Good level of Spanish is preferred
  • Experience with Anaplan and SAP preferred
  • Knowledge or experience of the publishing sector preferred
